Kevin's Journey

So many people from all around the United States have prayed for Kevin and his treatment. Our family is really grateful for the outpouring of love and support for Kevin in his time of need. There is no doubt that God has Kevin in his hands and has blessed Kevin with a wonderful Medical team and with continued healing.

Kevin keeps giving his best to try and comply with the medical teams requests to move, open his eyes and other tasks he must complete to get better. Kevin, keep it up big guy. You are loved and prayed for each and every day.

God Bless you in this journey and recovery period.

Sunday News

Greetings everyone. Here are the latest details.

Kim spoke with the doctor and he said the CT Scan looks about as normal as he thinks it should right now. Kevin still has a lot of blood in his head that needs to drain out but that he expects that could take weeks to clear up.

His crainal pressure is up again today but they are continuing to give him medication to lower that number. The pressure level was 35 earlier today but it has already started coming down. It is at 26 so going in the right direction.

During his 2 p.m. wake up call, Kevin held up one finger on command! The nurse asked him for two fingers but imagine that, he only gave her one finger. Kevin does what Kevin wants to do.

The nurse didn't try to stimulate him more because the crainal pressure is still to high and we need that number to go down.

Ok, that is the update for now.

Going For Another CT Scan

Kevin is going for another scan right now.  As soon as I hear something, I will let everyone know.  I am going to work on the blog and upload a few more pictures for Kim this morning.

Let's all pray for another good day.

Update:

Kevin just got back from his CT Scan.  The doctor will be in later to go over the results. He is still moving is left side well, but still a little lazy on the right side.  He opened his one eye for his night nurse last night, but hasn't opened them for the morning nurse yet.

Keep praying...:)

And The Good News Just Keeps Coming Today

I can't believe that we are still getting good news today.  I left to go have dinner with my husband, Jim since I haven't seen him all week.  My phone rang and it was Kathy, I thought just checking in again.  I really didn't expect to hear any additional updates.

Kim called and said that when they went in for his last "wake up" routine, that he opened his eyes really wide and looked at her like he wanted to say something but he couldn't.  She was really encouraged.  From what we understand, it is very unsual for him to have this much of a change all in one day.  So, what does that mean?  It means that God answers prayers.  We truly believe that Kevin is a miracle and God is watching over him.  Please continue to pray, and thank you all for the prayers that have already gone up.  God is probably getting annoyed hearing his name so much...but keept them coming.

Kim left the hospital for the night.  She is headed home to get some rest and will be back up there in the morning.  They are wanting Kevin to get a good nights sleep and start the whole process over again.

Good night everybody...thank you all so much.

A Good Day

Just got back from the hospital. I spent sometime with Kevin at the 4:00 p.m. wake up call. Let's just say, he doesn't like the tube in his mouth. When they turned the medication down, he started waking up a bit and he was using his tongue to stick out the plastic thing they have in his mouth to bite down on so he won't bite the tube in half.

He has a very strong jaw. The nurse was trying to pull his mouth open on one side and I was trying on the other side...he is strong as an ox.

We got him to open his eyes just a little bit, and he made some pretty mad faces at us when we pinched him. Kimberly was nicer to him and tried to tickle him to wake him up.

So we had 2 very happy moments today. We are thankful for everyone we get.

Kim wanted me to say "Hi" to everyone. She has her laptop at the hospital and loves reading all the posts.

Kathy is going to attempt to write something soon - she needs to figure this whole blogging thing out first.

He Opened Them Again

Kevin opened his eyes again for the second time. We are all so happy, we have been doing our "happy dance".

Kim was with him when he opened his eyes this time, and she believes that he recognized her voice and seemed to turn his head towards her.

This is truly an answer to prayer. We know God is listening so, please keep praying.

Happy Times

Kevin Opened His Eyes This Morning

Kevin opened this eyes this morning for a few minutes at 10:00 a.m. He hasn't done it again, but this is a good sign, AND WE NEEDED IT!!

I am going to do my best to get him to open them again today....

This is so exciting for us!!!

Kevin And Family

Saturday, 1/30/2010: 9:00 a.m. Update

Just got the 9:00 a.m. update.

Kevin has a bit of a fever today and his potassium level dropped some. They are currently giving him medication for this and the levels are already reaching normal levels.

His cranial pressure when up last night to to 28 but has since dropped back to 13. We want that number to be under 20.

He is moving his left side pretty well when stimulated but his right side is lacking movement again.

More info to come as soon as I have anything to share.

1/29/2010 - 4:50 p.m. Update

Hi everyone... so a big thank you to my son's girlfriend Erin for helping make this blog something that Kevin would love. If you can't tell, Kevin is a huge Michigan fan.

So the update for right now is, no news is good news. Things are about the same as they were yesterday. That boy is just being hard headed!! So keep the prayers coming. I can't wait for Kevin to wake up and see this blog and be able to thank everyone himself for all their prayers and concern. A big thank you to the members at our mom's church "Fellowship Baptist Church" for all the food they prepared. We truly appreciate it.

Okay...that's all for now. I'll keep you posted.

Kevin Deramo - The Journey Begins

As many of you know, Kevin Deramo suffered 2 aneurysms on 1/26/2010. It was the beginning of a journey that our family never expected to experience. But we are a family and we will begin the journey today and do everything we can to help Kevin, Kimberly and Maya get through this.

I am starting this blog (something I have never done before) to help keep everyone updated and also let everyone post their well wishes to Kevin so that we can share them with him.

Currently, he is in a medically induced coma. Every hour, the nurses go in a wake him up so that he will move and react to stimulation, which thankfully he is doing. Every hour, we pray for a good hour. When this first happened, I thought let us get through the day, now we say...let us get through this hour.

Kimberly is doing well. She loves hearing from people and we can't believe how many calls and e-mails we have received wishing the best for Kevin..he probably didn't realize he has so many people that cared about him...just another reason for him to get better!

So post away, we would love to hear from everyone and thanks again for all your prayers and well wishes.
